Since Early California Impressionism was rediscovered by collectors and scholars in the 1970’s, interest in this important early 20th century art movement has continued to mount with great enthusiasm. Artists such as William Wendt, Guy Rose, Granville Redmond, Maurice Braun, Edgar Payne, John Frost, Franz Bischoff, Maynard Dixon, William Ritschel, Elmer and Marion Wachtel, Armin Hansen, E. Charlton Fortune to name a few, painted this new found land of light and color with unabashed enthusiasm. These artists were highly regarded internationally by scholars and collectors alike, and many actually painted and studied abroad in the most prestigious art centers of Europe, touching easels with the great fellow artists of their time.
